Editorial standards.
These are the commitments we hold ourselves to. They exist for trust signalling — but more importantly, they exist as a discipline.
Sourcing
Every numerical claim on this site is cited with a primary source. State LLC filing fees come from the state Secretary of State website. IRS treatment claims come from the relevant IRS publication or revenue ruling. Industry pricing comes directly from the service provider's published pricing page.
If we cite a third-party source (e.g. BiggerPockets, NREIA), we link it directly. If we make a claim we can't source, we don't make the claim.
Affiliate recommendations
Several services we cover (LegalZoom, ZenBusiness, Northwest Registered Agent, Rocket Lawyer, IncFile) operate affiliate programs. We participate in some of them. When you click an affiliate link and sign up, we may earn a commission at no cost to you.
The recommendation order on this site is based on operator usability, not commission size. If a higher-commission service is the right pick for landlords, we say so. If a lower-commission service is the right pick, we say that. We disclose every commercial relationship and we don't gatekeep the reasoning.
See our full affiliate disclosure.
Templates and legal documents
Free template downloads on this site (LLC operating agreements, etc.) are reviewed by a licensed real-estate-investor-specialist attorney before publication. Templates are general-purpose starting points — they are not customised legal advice for your situation. Material legal decisions still require an attorney consultation.
Updates and maintenance
Every article carries a "Last reviewed" date. Articles covering pricing, fees, and regulatory status (LLC service comparisons, state filing fees, BOI reporting status, etc.) are reviewed quarterly. Cornerstone explainers are reviewed at least once per year.
When we materially update an article (changing a recommendation, correcting a number, adding a new service), we note it at the top of the article.
What we don't do
- No black-hat SEO. No cloaking, doorway pages, link schemes, or article spinning.
- No fake author credentials. We attribute articles to "The LLCforLandlords team" rather than inventing fictitious experts with fake bios.
- No paid placement disguised as editorial. Every commercial relationship is disclosed.
- No medical, securities, or specific tax advice. We provide general information; specific situations require a licensed professional.
